Looking for ways to keep the kids entertained without breaking the bank this summer? Libraries ACT has just unveiled its Summer School Holiday Program for 2026, and it is a treasure trove of free fun for Canberra families.

The program kicks off with a splash at the Gungahlin Branch. Families can enjoy a series of “Under the Sea” movie afternoons. Imagine settling in to watch Disney classics like The Little Mermaid, Moana, or Atlantis: The Lost Empire. It is a fantastic way to spend a relaxing afternoon together.

Just remember that these sessions require bookings, and parents need to stay for the show.

For the young creators, the Stop Motion Animation workshops with Toonworld Education are have hands-on sessions that allow kids to become film directors for a day. They will learn how to animate and even get to craft their own clay characters to take home.

Workshops are tailored for different age groups, from little ones aged 5–8 to older kids up to 12. You can find these creative sessions at both the Gungahlin and Tuggeranong branches throughout January.

Everything in the program is completely free, making it a perfect addition to your holiday calendar. However, spots fill up very quickly. You will want to hop onto the Libraries ACT website early to secure your tickets. It is a wonderful way to keep young minds active while making new friends in the community.
