New Year’s Eve in the capital is always a brilliant night. This year, the celebrations will sparkle right on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. The best part? The event is absolutely set up for fun for everyone.
You do not have to worry about tiny eyes struggling to stay open until midnight! Canberra hosts two spectacular fireworks displays every year. The first, and the most important for our Famberra crowd, kicks off exactly at 9 pm.
But the fun starts well before the fireworks launch. You can head down to one of the four official celebration hubs. These spots are dotted all around the lake. Look for them at Rond Terrace, Commonwealth Place, Wendouree Drive, and Regatta Point. Each hub will be buzzing with energy. Local DJs will be spinning fun tunes from 6 pm onwards. This creates a truly festive, party-like atmosphere.
What about dinner plans? You have great options available. You can easily pack your own picnic basket full of your family’s favourite snacks and meals. Alternatively, you can grab a tasty bite from one of the many food trucks located on-site at the hubs.
It makes for a totally hassle-free evening. Remember to tune into Mix 106.3 as well. They broadcast a special synchronised soundtrack to the 9 pm fireworks display. This means the light show and the music match up perfectly, no matter where you are watching from the lake’s edge!
