There is a huge celebration happening at the National Portrait Gallery (NPG), and you are all invited. We are talking about the incredible Super Kaylene Whiskey exhibition, and it is a pure burst of joy for everyone.

The exhibition celebrates the dynamic art of Kaylene Whiskey. She is a proud Yankunytjatjara woman and one of Australia’s leading contemporary artists. Her work is full of vibrant color and humor. Imagine Dolly Parton, Cher, and even Wonder Woman hanging out together! These pop culture icons mix playfully with Aṉangu culture, showcasing stories of First Nations joy and strength.

It’s an exhibition that connects cultures and celebrity in the most visually fun way possible. The kids will love spotting all the familiar faces and the powerful, strong women (kungkas) who star in her paintings.

The best part for families might just be the free, daily drop-in activity zone: the Super Kaylene Whiskey Creative Space. Kaylene herself invites visitors to “join her party!” This dedicated area is completely free and specifically designed for hands-on creativity. You do not need to book anything in advance. Just wander in between 10:00 am and 4:30 pm. All the art materials are provided for you.

What exactly can the kids do? They can create their own colorful drawings and add them to a massive, collaborative “party scene.” This activity is designed for all ages and abilities. It is the perfect way to let little imaginations run wild after viewing the energetic exhibition. It’s also a wonderful, relaxed way to spend an hour or two escaping the summer sun.

Plus, if you have older kids, entry to the main Super Kaylene Whiskey exhibition is free for everyone under 18! This whole package makes for a fantastic and budget-friendly family day out in Parkes.

The exhibition and the Creative Space run from Saturday, November 15, 2025, until Monday, March 9, 2026. So, whether you live here, are visiting Canberra, or are planning a move, make sure you put this vibrant, joyful, and super fun destination on your family activity list!
