Canberra families, are you looking for a fun, free, and totally grown-up activity that includes your newest little VIP?
The NGA has a brilliant program called Curious Corner: Babies in Arms. It’s a fantastic idea. This monthly event is designed specifically for parents and carers with non-walking babies. So, you can enjoy a morning out without worrying about a busy toddler running off!
This is how it works: you get to join a relaxed talk led by an NGA Curator. They discuss art and ideas right in the gallery space. But here’s the best part for the little ones. Your baby gets to play on a soft rug with wonderful, safe tactile materials. This encourages their sensory curiosity. It means you can connect with other parents while your baby is happily entertained. Canberra activities for babies don’t get much more relaxed than this!
Plus, the NGA makes things easy for new parents. Breastfeeding and bottle feeding are completely welcome throughout the gallery. In fact, they even have a dedicated Parents Room on Level 1. Furthermore, there is easy pram access and lifts everywhere you go.
But you should know one key detail. This program is truly for “babies in arms.” It is not suitable for active crawlers or little ones already walking. It is a 45-minute, free, drop-in event. It runs on the second Wednesday of every month at 11 am. Just remember to arrive a little early, because capacity is limited!
Go connect with other parents and enjoy the amazing art the NGA has to offer. It is a perfect, low-key way to explore the culture of Canberra with your tiniest family member!
