Sometimes the best adventures happen indoors. We have found a fantastic spot right in the heart of Acton. It is the amazing National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA).

This isn’t just a place for grown-ups and history buffs. It is bursting with activities for the kids!

Right now, their famous Arc Cinema is gearing up for a special family screening. We are talking about the beloved Pixar classic, Ratatouille. Everyone loves Remy the chef-mouse! This is your chance to see him on the massive screen this January. Plus, the cinema itself is an Art Deco treasure. It adds a touch of retro cool to your movie day.

Next, you can explore the building, which is largely free to wander through. This is where the real adventure begins. Head inside the Gallery and The Library areas. You will find incredible artefacts from Australian audiovisual history. Kids can spot famous Australian television treasures. Maybe they’ll recognise things from Skippy or Fat Cat! It’s like a whimsical, pop-culture museum.

Finally, the whole family can unwind in the sunny heritage courtyard. Grab a delicious treat or coffee from Dom’s Deli onsite. It makes for a perfect afternoon break.

Planning a visit to the NFSA is a fantastic way to blend history, culture, and pure family fun. It is truly a unique Canberra experience.
