Canberra is truly a city built for cyclists. The paths are wide. The lakes are beautiful. However, teaching little ones to ride can feel stressful. Where do you start? Luckily, the ACT Government has set up some fantastic places for kids to master their wheels in a super safe way.

The official Learn to Ride Centres are brilliant. They are essentially miniature road networks just for children. We are talking about tiny roundabouts and pedestrian crossings! In fact, they even have proper road signs and line markings. This means your child learns road etiquette while having a blast. You can relax knowing they are safely fenced off from real traffic.

There are four great spots for this road-safety fun:

  • Lake Tuggeranong
  • Lake Ginninderra Belconnen
  • “The Playground” track at Stromlo Forest
  • A new, all-abilities concrete bike track Evatt Community Playground
  • Coming Soon: South Jerrabomberra Town Park

It’s perfect for wobbly kids still finding their balance.

For the little daredevils, there is “The Playground” track at Stromlo. This 2.5km loop features skill-building obstacles. Think mini bridges, see-saws, and even rhythm sections. It helps kids build confidence away from the traffic.

The Canberra region clearly cares about getting families outdoors. You can even enrol them in a course with Pedal Power ACT.

From safely navigating roundabouts to tackling a tiny see-saw jump, our city makes learning to ride an absolute breeze. So, pack a picnic and pump up those tyres. Your next family adventure is waiting on two wheels!
