Canberra families, get ready for a trip down memory lane! Our favourite fluffy crime-fighter is celebrating a very big birthday. We are talking about none other than the legendary Constable Kenny Koala.
He has been keeping Canberra’s kids safe and sound for 50 amazing years. Now, the National Capital Exhibition is throwing him a huge celebration. This special “50 Years on the Beat” exhibition is a perfect, free family activity. It is running from September 2025 all the way through to March 2026. This means plenty of time to visit!
What can the little ones do? So much! Your children will love diving into Kenny Koala’s history. You can see the colourful collection of costumes and puppets.
They even have the super-cool 1994 Kenny Koala police car on display. This classic vehicle is the perfect backdrop for a picture-perfect family memory. Definitely bring your camera for a shot next to this piece of Canberra history!
The exhibition is packed with interactive fun, too. Head straight for the immersive children’s game station, “Stay OK with CKK.” It’s a great way for kids to learn important safety tips while they play. There are also craft tables where imaginations can run wild. Kids can leave their birthday wishes on the giant 50th birthday card wall. Plus, challenge the family with digital games and fun quizzes scattered throughout the display.
Keep an eye out for the school holiday workshops, too. On specific dates in October, little police recruits can make their very own Constable Kenny mask or a police car craft. What a cool souvenir to take home! And do not forget to check the schedule for a special “Meet Constable Kenny’s Friends” presentation. This is your chance to learn more about the amazing work of our beloved koala community mascot.
