The school holidays can sometimes feel like a puzzle. Look no further than the amazing visual arts workshops offered right here in the ACT. We are talking about the Creative Catalyst program by Aeon Academy, based at Yarralumla Primary School.
This program is truly fantastic for children and teens aged 7 to 16. It is all about letting their creativity explode! The workshops are led by professional artists. In fact, these talented educators all graduated from the Canberra School of Art & Design. This means your child is learning from the absolute best. They get to dive into a wide world of amazing materials and techniques.
Imagine your child coming home with their very own Ceramic Treasure Chest. They might even craft a working Clay Ocarina (a little whistle!) to charm the family. How cool is that? Other sessions focus on larger, imaginative projects, too. Kids can design huge, sculptural Mushroom Hats or even construct a set of dazzling Wearable Wings using mixed media. This is art that really lets them move and imagine. Plus, for the budding cartographers, there are workshops on creating an Imagination Map of their own fantasy world. They also explore essential painting and drawing techniques.
The best part is the process. Children are encouraged to slow down and enjoy the journey of making. They learn how to transform their big ideas into real-life masterpieces. This focus on process, not just the final product, builds confidence and encourages patience. It’s truly a creative haven for Canberra’s next generation of artists.
If you live in the area, or are planning a trip to the capital, check out the Aeon Academy website for their current schedule.
Give your child the gift of creativity these holidays. It’s a fun and inspiring way to spend a day!
