The skies above Canberra are calling! The annual Kite Flying Festival is making its wonderful return. It’s the perfect family adventure so mark your calendars – 18 Jan 2026 from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

Imagine looking up and seeing a kaleidoscope of colour. Hundreds of vibrant kites will be dancing in the sky! This celebration invites visitors of all ages to join the fun. Little ones can get hands-on with the main event. They can try their own kite flying experiences.

Beyond the sky-high entertainment, the fun keeps going strong on the ground. Keep an eye out for the classic amusement rides! Who doesn’t love a quick, cheerful thrill?

Face painting is also always a major hit. Your child can be transformed into a temporary superhero or a beautiful butterfly. Plus, they often offer fun henna art for something a little different and creative. A live DJ will keep the energy buzzing all day long, adding a party atmosphere.

When tummies start to rumble, don’t worry! You are totally covered. A great selection of food and dessert trucks will be onsite. You can grab lunch, a quick snack, or something wonderfully sweet.

This annual community celebration is also completely free to attend. It’s an easy, low-cost way to make a great family memory. The open space of the lawns means plenty of room to run, play, and spread out. So, gather your crew, pack a blanket, and come spend a relaxed, playful day right in the heart of Canberra. Don’t miss this colourful, high-flying community event!
